Remember those books when you were a kid?

That’s right, those one’s

Well Celina ( pictured above on the right ) made an impression on a young girl (whom will remain nameless).
I was approached by the partner of the adult version of the once young girl. He came to me with no ideas or clues as to how to approach an image of ‘Celina’ for an adult version of the once small girl.

Celina.

Initial sketch.
The young girl saw ‘Celina’ as somewhat of a Talisman or Idol. She was inspired by the natural world and the potential for travel, adventure and a world far greater than she had experienced.
I wanted to keep things fairly simple compositionally. My focus was to use the girl and her relationship with the natural world as metaphor. In deep amongst the thick jungle of her native Amazon, her upward gaze and slight smile toward the light coming down through the canopies.

Blocking out foreground, mid and background jungle.

And we are done here.
